When all goes well in a recording studio, be it at home or in a professional studio, the end result is a song with great instrumentation and good vocals. There are, however, times when the vocals aren't that great or when you need to remove the vocal tracks from a pre-existing song, either to replace them or to create karaoke tracks.
With the latest Audacity version, you can remove vocal from songs easily and free.
Start Audaciy
Load the song you will be removing the vocals from. All you have to do is drag and drop the song into Audacity, or go to File→Open on the menu.
Choose the area to be edited. To select the whole song, you can do this by clicking directly beneath the song title, or use the hot key, Ctrl+A.
If you just want to remove vocal from a portion of the song, press the left button of the mouse and drag to make a selection.
Click on "effect" on the menu and scroll down to "vocal remover", click it and let it load. There you have it, 90% or more of the vocals are removed, free of charge.
Note: If you use the older version of Audacity, select "Split Stereo Track" at first. You will now have two tracks to experiment with. Now select the bottom track, go back to the black arrow drop down list and select "mono" for both tracks.
